Dafi Kühne’s austere, double-sided, black-and-white poster promoting the 2018 iteration of the Typographic Summer Program he had offered at his studio since 2016 emphasizes the traditional letterpress printing presses and physical type on which his own practice is based. (Further details about the program are printed on the back). It was included in the 2018 STA-100 (awarded by the Society of Typographic Arts to the 100 best examples of typographic excellence each year) and was also designated one of the 100 Best Plakate (100 Best Posters) in the 2018 competition of this name (founded in Berlin in 2001) awarded to posters from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. The following year, however (see PH9973), by contrast, he promoted the same program, now referred to as “Typographic Empowerment,” with a colorful composition focused on the word “Pow!”
