Ivan Chermayeff designed the poster for his solo exhibition at the Addison Gallery of American Art at Phillips Academy in 1984. While Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv, the firm he cofounded in 1957, has long been distinguished for its trademark and identity programs for such organizations as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, New York University, the Smithsonian, PBS, Harvard University Press, and countless others, the exhibition itself examined his more private art practice, especially his playful mixed-media collages based on a range of quotidian found materials.
