This poster was issued in 1992 by AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP), an organization founded in March 1987 at the Lesbian and Gay Community Services Center in New York in an effort to reshape public discourse through around the disease through direct action and powerful graphic design. In a stark, scrappy design evoking early woodcuts, a skull is trapped between the Republican elephant and the Democratic donkey. Viewers are encouraged to attend a demonstration in New Hampshire in the lead-up to the presidential campaign.
