This poster is for Sweden’s Vänsterpartiet (Left Party), which describes itself as an eco-socialist political group that also promotes feminism and anti-racism. It only adopted this name in 1990, one year before this poster was created. Prior to then, it had been known as the Left Party Communists since 1967. While democracies face challenges when attempting to enact long-term policies around issues like environmentalism, historic data suggests that they outperform autocracies in observing those policies once passed. Scandinavian countries including Sweden have been global leaders in environmental sustainability due to consistent large investments in renewable energy, low carbon emissions to GDP ratios, and a strong cultural connection to nature.
