Here Pekka Loiri, the pioneering Finnish graphic designer, promotes the 1986 Finnish-language production of subversive English playwright Joe Orton’s 1969 farce What the Butler Saw at the Helsinki City Theater; like much of his work, it is characterized by bold colors and clear lines—and focused on a single motif. In this case, he emphasizes the absurdity of the play’s main character, the lecherous psychiatrist Dr. Prentice, who attempts to seduce his secretary. The play, directed by Neil Hardwick, ran for 69 performances and was enormously well received.
