Dafi Kühne created this poster in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Dada, the avant-garde artistic and literary movement that first emerged in Switzerland in response to the madness of World War I. The centennial was celebrated in Zürich with 165 days of events and exhibitions, including Obsession Dada at the Café Voltaire, the birthplace of the movement; an exhibition at the Landesmuseum titled Dada Universal; and Dadaglobe Reconstructed at the Kunsthaus Zürich. Kühne’s typographic design with the word “dada” overlaid on a shadowy ground comprising the repeated word “gaga” subtly emphasizes the absurdism that was an essential characteristic of the movement.
