The poster is based on a photograph of a scene in Ingmar Bergman’s production of August Strindberg’s 1888 play Fröken Julie (Miss Julie) that opened at the Dramaten (Royal Dramatic Theater) in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1985. The image suggests something of the battle of wills at the heart of this classic of Swedish naturalistic theater; the play concerns the emotional entanglement between Miss Julie (played here by Marie Göranzon), a young aristocratic woman; Jean (Peter Stormare), her father’s educated valet; and the maid Kristine.
