This is one of many posters produced by Bulgarian-born graphic designer Kamen Popov for the Theatre des Capucins in Luxembourg after he moved there in the 1980s. He also was the founder of Gallery-Publishing House 88, where he introduced the work of Bulgarian artists to a wider audience. Here, he advertises the theater’s production of Molière’s 1668 farce George Dandin or The Abashed Husband, about a rich peasant who marries the daughter of an impoverished gentleman; his composite of a woman’s shoe and the head of a man wearing the distinctive wig (perruque) of the period and a heart for a nose hints at some of the absurdities of the piece.
