This poster by an unknown designer promotes the 2009 American film based on J. R. Ackerley’s much-loved 1956 memoir My Dog Tulip, about his relationship with his German shepherd. Both book and film reflect the British writer’s belief that “Unable to love each other, the English turn naturally to dogs.” The design reflects the modest, nostalgic style of the hand-drawn animation for the film and the muted colors associated with 1950s England where the story is set. Only the title stands out in bold red.
