Distinguished artist and graphic designer Josć Luis Ortiz Téllez, born in Mexico City, has lived in New York for decades; in addition to his graphic design work, he has taught over the years at such city institutions as the School of Visual Arts, the Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design, and Pratt Institute. When he designed this poster in 1991, a call for entries to its sixth international exhibition of the Art Directors Club of New York, he was the organization’s chairman and graphic designer. The composition, with its neon image of the globe framed by the New York City skyline against a brilliant orange and yellow ground emphasizes the international reach of the club’s call, one reinforced by the text below in French, Spanish, English, Japanese, and German.
