Produced by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW), a Kenyan nonprofit, this poster would be hung in schools and other public buildings to educate children on environmental issues. An earlier poster from the series is reproduced in the Earth section of this book. Established in 1979, AFEW has two goals: to “enhance resilience in sustainable environmental conservation” and to educate children and adults on local wildlife, most specifically the Rothschild Giraffe. The organization has helped bring this species of giraffe back from near extinction and now offers opportunities for thousands of visitors annually to come in close contact with the animal in order to raise awareness. Today, AFEW also offers educational programs for teachers and other administrators to better manage long-term conservation projects of their own.
